Red Wing great Chris Chelios inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame

July 9, 2013

Former Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame today, along with fellow Red Wings forward Brendan Shanahan and Anehiem Ducks defenseman Scott Niedermayer.

Both of Chris’ sons, Jake and Dean, play hockey for MSU. Dean is a senior forward for MSU, scoring a career-best 15 points last season. Jake is a junior defenseman and had season-high four blocks against Minnesota, Miami and Lake Superior State.

Jake currently is participating in Chicago Blackhawks training camp while Dean was invited to Detroit Red Wings camp, according to MSU athletics.

Chris Chelios played 1,651 games — more than any defenseman in NHL history. He scored 948 points at the position and won three Stanley Cups, one with the Montreal Canadiens in 1986 and two with the Red Wings in 2002 and 2008.
