E.L. resident drowns in Lake Michigan

An East Lansing man drowned Saturday afternoon, after swimming with friends in an area along Lake Michigan, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the incident at approximately 4 p.m.

The man, 67-year-old Bruce Henderson, was swimming and went underwater. About 20 minutes later, one of his friends noticed that he had been under for too long and pulled him out. Witnesses on the beach attempted CPR until rescue units of the Grant Township Fire Department arrived and transported the victim to an ambulance.

Henderson was transported to the West Shore Medical Center in Manistee, Mich., where he was pronounced dead.
