Wriggelsworth said officers approached the man and asked why he was carrying the cleaner and during their discussion, a loud noise went off on the top level of the parking structure.

Cody Christopher Mastrodonato, listed as a mechanical engineering sophomore in MSU’s database, reportedly told police he set off the bomb in celebration of U-M’s loss to Louisville.

He was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in East Lansing’s 54-B District Court and released on his own recognizance.

Wriggelsworth said the explosive was made out of tinfoil, a plastic bottle and cleaning solvent. He said he has seen them sporadically in his about 20 years with the department, and the devices are especially dangerous because the individuals making them never know when they will explode.

A 19-year old student has been arrested and arraigned for allegedly creating and placing a makeshift bomb on the top of the Cedar Village parking structure at approximately 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the East Lansing Police Department.

Cody Christopher Mastrodonato, listed as a mechanical engineering sophomore, was arrested and arraigned on one felony charge of placing an offensive or injurious substance on any property with intent to alarm. The charge Mastrodonato faces is a five-year felony.

While patrolling the Cedar Village area, ELPD officers made contact with an individual who was carrying a bottle of cleaning solvent in the parking structure’s stairwell. The officers heard a large explosion at the top level of the structure shortly afterwords.

After further investigating, it was determined the suspect had created a makeshift explosive that resembles a MacGyver bomb. The explosive didn’t cause any damage to the structure or any cars located on the structure.
