Penn State beats MSU hockey team, 3-2

Penn State hockey got the better of MSU on Saturday night when the Nittany Lions overtook the Spartans, 3-2.

Two MSU defenseman notched the Spartans’ first two goals of the game with very similar plays.
Sophomore RJ Boyd nailed a slap shot from the left point, and the puck bounced up and over Penn State goaltender Matthew Skoff’s glove hand.

Minutes later, senior Matt Grassi followed suit with a slap shot from the right point. It was Boyd’s second goal of the season and Grassi’s first.

Penn State started the second period on a power play, and it only took the Nittany Lions 32 seconds to get on the board.

Mark Yanis picked up a rebound while Hildebrand was tied up after a scuffle, cutting MSU’s lead in half.

Five minutes into the third period, Penn State tied it up with a goal by Casey Bailey after the puck found him in the slot.

Nittany Lion Taylor Holstrom found himself on a one-on-one with MSU freshman goaltender Jake Hildebrand and came out on top, notching the winning goal.

Hildebrand made 47 saves, a career high.
