Gates Foundation donates to MSU

On Tuesday, university officials announced MSU received a $7.8 million grant from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Gates Foundation Global Development Program.

The money will benefit eight African nations by helping them meet agricultural needs during the next four years, according to a release from the university.

The nations include Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Zambia, Ethiopia and Tanzania.

With the grant, MSU will partner with numerous African universities that will help farmers become more productive in agriculture.

This isn’t MSU’s first grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In 2008, a $4 million grant was awarded to MSU to analyze the African region’s agricultural marketing and trade systems.
