MSU College Republicans gathered at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave., along with others from the Michigan Republican Party, to watch the results from the presidential election and other elections happening in Michigan.

The banquet hall was filled with Republicans anxiously awaiting the incoming results from elections around Michigan, and of course, the presidential election.

Cody Hibbs, vice chair of the MSU College Republicans, said he’s excited that the election is over and that it is coming to a conclusion.

“You like the campaigning, but then you also get to see the results of the campaigning, actually doing things for the citizens of America,” Hibbs said.

He said he wants to see more cooperation from both parties coming in the next four years.

“Being anti-one or anti-another, or anti-this person or anti that isn’t productive,” Hibbs said. “The election season is over. I think it’s time to sit down and actually think about what’s the biggest issue facing this country and solve it.”

Lisa Jankowski, finance sophomore and member of the MSU College Republicans, said growth in the economy is her main concern.

“(An) 8 percent unemployment rate doesn’t do it for me,” she said.

Like the MSU College of Republicans, the MSU College of Democrats met at Pizza House, 4790 S. Hagadorn Road, on election night to watch the results of the presidential election at see State Rep. Sam Singh’s victory, as well as the other Michigan elections. There were many Democratic candidates who attended the event including Sam Singh, as well as other local candidates.

Stephen Wooden, president of the MSU College Democrats, said the Democratic Party did a successful job in running a strong campaign.

“I think we did great,” Wooden said. “We can’t deny that the excitement level is not what it was a few years ago, but we don’t need an exciting election to move forward.”

The MSU College of Democrats did its part in the election by daily campaigns and actively registering voters. Wooden believes the Democratic Party is heading in the right direction and will be in a strong position in the next four years.

“I believe (in the next four years) a country that is focused on moving forward not backward, and investing in the people,” Wooden said.
