Website compares cost of college

April 11, 2012

A new service unveiled Wednesday by the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau allows students to see how their college compares in debt costs to those around the country.

The Financial Aid Comparison Shopper allows students to see how their college stacks up against others, showing anticipated levels of debt after attending each college.

College applicants can enter up to three colleges of their choice and see how expected levels of debt compare to each other and national averages.

The calculator is the latest step in the bureau’s Know Before You Owe program, which seeks to provide greater transparency on college affordability.

MSU is rated as having a “high” debt burden for undergraduates, estimating a cost of more than $800 after graduation for the next 10 years.
