Former College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate student Andrew Thompson pleaded guilty to three charges of animal killing this morning in Lansing’s 30th Circuit Court, according to a court official.

Thompson at one point faced 13 charges of animal killing — three in East Lansing and 10 in Okemos — after he admitted to killing several Italian Greyhounds to an Ingham County Animal Control investigator in June 2011.

As part of the plea bargain, Thompson admitted to killing two dogs while living in East Lansing and one in while living Meridian Township.

His attorney Stacia Buchanan declined to comment Monday afternoon.

Thompson’s setencing will take place June 13.

Ingham County Assistant Prosecutor Lisa McCormick said the prosecutor’s office was pleased with today’s outcome. She said the maximum penalty for the three counts he pleaded guilty to is the same as if he were found guilty of all 13 he originally faced.

“He could not get any more time if he went to trial and was convicted,” McCormick said.
