Ryan Miller leads all-decade hockey team

The MSU hockey all-decade first and second teams have a nice blend of players from each era of the decade. The toughest choice in the selection process came between the pipes. Jeff Lerg had a tremendous career for MSU, but we had to give the nod to Ryan Miller, who was only the second Spartan win the Hobey Baker Award.

F: Jim Slater (2001-05, 64 goals, 108 assists, plus-51) — One of six players to be a two-year captain at MSU. Was first-team All-CCHA, second-team All-American and a Hobey Baker Memorial Award finalist as a junior.

F: Adam Hall (1998-2002, 79 goals, 47 assists) — Was team captain in 2001-02 and also second team All-CCHA as a sophomore.

F: Tim Kennedy (2005-08, 42 goals, 63 assists, 11 game-winning goals) — Kennedy was one of MSU’s most dynamic offensive players of the decade, leading the team with three goals and three assists in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

D: John-Michael Liles — (1999-2003, 44 goals, 94 assists ) — A two-time All-American selection, Liles is MSU’s top goal-scoring defenseman in program history, tallying 44 goals, and third highest scoring defenseman in MSU history with 144 points.

D: Brad Fast (1999-2003, 30 goals, 84 assists) — Second on the team in points in 2002-03 behind Liles. Team captain that season, earning All-America honors and first-team All-CCHA honors.

G: Ryan Miller (1999-2002, 73-19-12, 1.54 GAA, .941 save percentage) — Finshed career with 26 shutouts and the 2001 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, becoming only second goaltender to do so. Two-time team MVP. 2001 CCHA Player of the Year, CCHA Tournament MVP and first-team All-America.
