A police employee reported having his car window punched while patrolling a parking lot near Birch Road and Cherry Lane. The suspect, a 52-year-old male Lansing resident, punched the passenger window of his car when the employee was asked to move his vehicle, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The 19-year-old male employee said the suspect yelled at him to move his vehicle, which was stationed on the sidewalk between 7 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. during an MSU hockey game, McGlothian-Taylor said. When the victim explained that he was assigned to the area, the suspect punched the vehicle’s passenger side window. There were no injuries reported. Officers made contact with the suspect and charges are yet to be determined, McGlothian-Taylor said. The victim plans to press charges on the suspect. The incident is still under investigation and will likely go to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

I am writing in response to Steve Ross’ letter Rumors regarding student campaign group untrue (SN 11/26). After reading the letter, I couldn’t help but think that the degeneration of politics into what it has become today is going to continue well into the future. I thought to myself, “Wow, the petty bickering has not only infested just about every presidential primary campaign, it has now spread to the grassroots of those campaigns as well.”

On Thanksgiving morning at 1:30 a.m. officers of the East Lansing Police Department were called to the scene of a horrible traffic accident on U.S. 127 by the Trowbridge entrance ramp. A drunken driver had lost control of his truck and struck the guardrails on both sides of the expressway, disabling his vehicle in the middle of the road. He then turned off his lights. Driving behind him was a 44-year-old man who was on his way home from work. He witnessed the accident and pulled his car over to the side of the road and got out to help. Within seconds, a third car came up on the incident, swerved to avoid hitting the drunken driver’s car and struck the good Samaritan who later died. He left behind a wife and three children. The driver of the third car that struck the victim had not been drinking, and he did all that he could to avoid the accident. Officers at the scene arrested the driver of the first car for drunken driving.

Only the people you know really well are complex enough to have emotional problems. Everyone else is either just normal or crazy, and therapy is only for the latter. Although it is gaining acceptance, seeing a therapist is seen as a weakness and discussing the topic is often still considered taboo. The imperfect world breeds imperfect people who think they’re short, fat or stupid.
