State News Debates

The State News sat down with several student political advocates for a question-and-answer session before Michigan's Jan. 15 presidential primary. Campus leaders representing each candidate discussed why their candidate should win Michigan votes.

On the Democratic side, Steve Ross supported Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., Emily Castle supported Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Michael Mersol-Barg supported former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards.

For the Republicans, Carrie White supported Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., Leo Madarang supported former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Stu Kelly supported former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. The representative supporting former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee withdrew from the event.

Several Democrats, including Obama and Edwards, are not on the ballot after Michigan violated the Democratic National Committee's rules.

All Republican candidates are still on the Michigan ballot.
