Red shirt sophomore outside hitter Jenilee Rathje jumps and cheers after the final point of the third set was scored against Purdue on Saturday at Jenison Field House. The point was reviewed and didn’t count, but the Spartans still defeated the Boilermakers 3-0.

For the first time in head coach Rick Comley’s career at MSU, the Spartans swept the weekend series against Michigan with a 2-0 win Saturday that secured their first place spot in CCHA.

In a game that gave the team eligibility for a bowl game, the Spartans defeated the Boilermakers in a last-minute, 40-37 victory. “We just kept playing all season,” sophomore quarterback Kirk Cousins said. “There’s been a lot of games like this where things haven’t gone our way early and we just keep playing and don’t give up and it was nice this one came our way at the end.”
