MSU still without starting RB for Sat.
Running backs coach Dan Enos said Thursday night that, because of injuries, a starter has yet to determined for Saturday’s game against Western Michigan (noon, Big Ten Network).
Freshman Larry Caper, who has received the most carries this season, left early in last Saturday’s loss to Minnesota with a head injury. He practiced for the first time this week on Thursday and Enos said he is still day-to-day.
“He’ll be day-to-day but he practiced today and he looked pretty good,” Enos said. “We just have to wait to see what the doctors say, they have the final say.”
Caper did some running during the week but Thursday was the first time he was in pads.
With Caper possibly out, senior A.J. Jimmerson is expected to receive more playing time.
Jimmerson has been a backup for five years not and Enos said his patience has paid off.
“He never complained when a freshman got put in front of him or someone else got put in front of him, he took on his role and he’s been very persistent, very patient. It’s paying off,” Enos said. “He
got to play a bunch against Minnesota last week and he’s going to play a bunch this week and he’s handled it very well and we feel really good about him.”
With all the goal line troubles in the last four games, Enos said using 230-pound sophomore running back Ashton Leggett in goal line situations has been considered.
“He’s practiced very well this week and he’ll play some this week,” Enos said.
