Snyder and Phillips halls Complex Director Corey Malloch found dead Thursday

March 9, 2012

Complex Director at Snyder and Phillips halls Corey Malloch died earlier this week at the age of 34.

Malloch was found unresponsive in his apartment by MSU Police on Thursday, according to a statement from university spokesman Kent Cassella.

MSU Police and officials from the Ingham County Health Department could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.

The cause of death currently is unknown, but health officials do not believe his death shows a risk of spreading infectious disease to community members, according to the statement.

Family community services sophomore Carly Glynn, a Snyder Hall resident, died Feb. 10 from a strain of meningococcal disease.

There also are no signs of foul play in Malloch’s death, according to Cassella’s statement.

Malloch worked as a complex director at Shaw Hall prior to his work at Snyder and Phillips halls. He worked with students in the Residential College for Arts and Humanities and served as adviser to the college’s student council.

Manistique, Mich., resident Beth Malloch, Corey Malloch’s mother, said he enjoyed his job at MSU even though it sometimes was hard for him to cope with student problems because of his compassionate nature.

“He was uplifting in a community of people,” she said. “The thing I most remember about Corey was the joy he brought into the room.”
