Four MSU students arrested on felony explosives charges

November 3, 2009

Four MSU freshmen have been arraigned on felony explosive charges after detonating an explosive device in a yard on the 400 block of Grove Street.

The students, Olivia M. Hudson, 18, of Okemos; Darby D. Dudley, 18, of Mason; Sasha N. Savage, 18, of Okemos; and Nikolai E. Wasielewski, 18, of Rossford, Ohio, were arrested at about 12 a.m. Monday after East Lansing police were called about an explosion on the 400 block of Grove Street, East Lansing police Chief Tom Wibert said.

Wibert said the pear-sized mortar firework caused no damage. The MSU police saw a vehicle matching the description witnesses gave and arrested the four students in the Holden Hall service area parking lot, according to a statement from MSU Police.

The four students were charged with placing explosives and causing property damage and possession of bombs with unlawful intent, the statement said. They each could face up to 20 years in prison and/or a $15,000 fine for both charges.

The statement said all suspects were arraigned on Nov. 2, before East Lansing 54-B District Court Judge Richard Ball and released after posting an unspecified bond.
