The MSU volleyball team picked up right where it left off at home, taking down Fairfield in straight sets in the first game of the University of Connecticut Classic Friday in Storrs, Conn.
MSU jumped out early, taking set one by the score of 25-15 and set two by the score of 25-13. The third set was much closer, but the Spartans hung on and took it 25-22.
Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Galloway led the Spartans with 10 kills, followed by junior Alexis Mathews with 7.
Junior setter and team captain Kristen Kelsay and fellow setter freshman Halle Peterson tied for the team lead in assists with 15, while sophomore Kori Moster led in digs, racking up 22. Junior outside hitter Lauren Wicinski tallied 4 service aces, leading all servers.
MSU will take on Dartmouth Saturday afternoon, followed by host Connecticut in the evening. A pair of wins would give the Spartans their second consecutive tournament win, after hosting and winning the Spartan Showcase last weekend.
