Former Spartan Kyndra Abron honored at Jenison Field House

By Caleb Nordgren          Posted: 09/10/12 6:51pm

Immediately before securing its third and final win of last weekend’s Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational, MSU volleyball raised a new banner at Jenison Field House. It’s the eighth banner dedicated to an individual that the volleyball team has put in the rafters, and this one is in honor of former All-American Kyndra Abron.

All eight banners belong to former Spartan All-Americans, but Abron has a particular claim to fame. She was named an honorable mention by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, or AVCA, in her sophomore season, becoming the first sophomore at MSU to be named an All-American.

Abron joins Dana Cooke, Jenna Wrobel, Erin Hartley, Courtney DeBolt, Ashley Schatzle, Valerie Sterk and Kim Schram when her No. 16 was unveiled Saturday night.

The crowd at Jenison gave Kyndra a standing ovation even before they saw the banner, and chanted her name at multiple points in the ceremony.
