As the summer edges on, the countdown to the start of the college football season gets shorter and shorter.
Preseason watch lists for various end of the season awards are going to be steadily released in the coming weeks, and a few MSU players have already made the cut for some prestigious awards.
Junior running back Le’Veon Bell made the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is given to the best player in the nation at season’s end. The award — won last year by former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck — has been given to a quarterback, running back or wide receiver every year since 1980.
On the defensive side of the ball, MSU has four players on the Bednarik Award watch list: senior corner back Johnny Adams, junior linebackers Denicos Allen and Max Bullough and junior defensive end William Gholston. The Bednarik Award is annualy presented to the college football’s defensive player of the year. Only LSU and Alabama join MSU with four players on the watch list.
