Softball looks to continue midweek success into weekend against Rutgers

Softball will kick off its three-game series against Rutgers Friday at 4 p.m. at Secchia Stadium.

All three games will be held in East Lansing with Saturday and Sunday's games scheduled for 1 p.m. first pitches. 

Currently, the Spartans are coming off a two-game win streak after an 8-1 win against Central Michigan and a 9-1 win against Eastern Michigan. This increases their record to 18-24, while the Scarlet Knights stand with a record of 17-27. Rutgers is currently coming off a 12-game losing streak. 

Senior outfielder Lea Foerster leads the Spartans with a .361 batting average, .497 on-base percentage and 44 hits. Redshirt senior right-handed pitcher Kristina Zalewski currently leads the Spartan bullpen with a 2.20 ERA.

Rutgers' senior infielder Rebecca Hall currently leads the team with a .385 batting average, gaining 55 hits, seven home runs and earning a .444 on-base percentage. Junior pitcher Whitney Jones leads the Scarlet Knights with a 4.27 ERA and an 8-13 record.
