According to state records, democratic gubernatorial candidate and MSU alumna Gretchen Whitmer received a $3,330 donation from former dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine William Strampel.

All $3,330 has been donated to three charities: End Violent Encounters, the Firecracker Foundation and MSU Safe Place.

Strampel, former boss of ex-MSU and USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, was arrested Monday evening, as he faces four charges. The charges include fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony count of misconduct in the office, and two misdemeanors willful neglect of duty as a public officer.  His arraignment was Tuesday.

Strampel donated the money to Whitmer's campaign last year, according to state records.

Strampel is also the first person charged in the investigation by Special Prosecutor William Forsythe on how MSU handled the allegations made against Nassar.

Whitmer, when she was an MSU student, was a victim of sexual assault on campus.

Whitmer is leading polls of the Democratic primary and is endorsed by the Michigan House Democrats
