The MSU field hockey team took on the No. 8 University of Michigan Wolverines on Friday night, and fell to the ranked Wolverines, 6-0, making their record now 3-5 on the season.

U-M kept the pressure on early and often, scoring three of its six goals within the first 20 minutes of the game. The Wolverines also scored six of their goals on 20 shots, including with 10 of those 20 shots on goal.

The Wolverines didn't only dominate on the offensive side of the field, but also the  defensive side. The Wolverines only allowing six MSU shots throughout the entire game, four of them shots on goal.

Head coach Helen Knull said the team struggled "with their own basics" which let U-M control the ball for most of the game and get more opportunities.

Knull said this has been a "constant" issue in the past couple of games.

"Until we have the work rate off ball and our ability to want to work together as a team, we're going to struggle to get open," Knull said. "At the end of the day, it's us and how we play."

The Spartans will look to improve their record to 4-6 against the Yale Bulldogs. The Spartans will face off against the Bulldogs this Sunday on Ralph Young Field in East Lansing at noon.
