MSU's Brian Allen named to Rimington Trophy Fall Watch List
Update 10:53 a.m.
Senior offensive lineman Brian Allen was selected to the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List. The award is presented to the nation's best interior lineman, whether they be on the offensive or defensive line.
Of the 81-player field, only 11 are Big Ten athletes.
Senior center Brian Allen was named to the Rimington Trophy Fall Watch List, MSU Athletic Communications announced Tuesday. The Rimington Trophy recognizes the best center in college football.
Allen is one of eight Big Ten players on the 70-player watch list.
The anticipation for the Hinsdale, Illinois native comes with just four career starts at center as a Spartan. Through 38 career games with MSU, Allen started in 25, 16 at left guard and five at right guard. He enters the season having started in his last 14 games — the longest active streak on the team. Allen also started in 12 games in 2015.
Allen, a second-team All-Big Ten selection the last two seasons, was MSU's only offensive lineman in 2016 to start in all 12 games. He led the roster with twice as many knockdowns as any other lineman.
Fellow teammate LJ Scott was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List on Monday, an award annually given to the nation's America's College Player of the Year.
MSU kicks off the season on Sept. 2 with a home game against Bowling Green.
