As of approximately noon on Monday, the city of East Lansing’s phone system is down.

An alert sent out by the city at 12:30 p.m. said incoming and outgoing calls cannot be made to East Lansing City Hall, the East Lansing Police Department, the East Lansing Fire Department and others at this time.

Those attempting to reach ELPD for non-emergency matters can call 517-272-6026 and should always call 911 for emergency matters, the alert said.

At this time it is unclear what is causing the disruption, when it first began and how long it is expected to last. As the city’s phones are down, officials could not be reached for comment. According to the city's website alert, "AT&T has confirmed that Michigan is impacted by a nationwide telecom issue. AT&T's estimated time of recovery is 2:30 p.m."

As of 2:35 p.m. the website still says city phones are down and an attempt to call the number listed on the homepage resulted in a failed call.

An update will be sent out when the phones are restored, the alert said.
