Forward Miles Bridges has been named to the preseason 50 John R. Wooden Award watch list. The list, headlined by Duke's Grayson Allen, includes players considered most outstanding in men's and women's college basketball.

This season, the John R. Wooden awards list contains 12 freshmen, three of which play for Kentucky.

The award is named after the former Indiana State Teachers College — now Indiana State University — and UCLA head coach John Wooden. In his coaching career, Wooden won 10 national championships, four of which were undefeated seasons. Players under Wooden included Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Bill Walton.

Last season, the award recipient was Oklahoma's Buddy Hield and Connecticut's Breanna Stewart.

The last time a freshman won the award was Kentucky's Anthony Davis in 2012.
