In a new poll posted this week, MSU’s Spartan head logo topped the list in college football.

Athlon Sports’ Jim Weber ranked the top 25 Football Bowl Subdivision based on aesthetics, creativity and color combination, Weber said in the Athlon Sports article.

“Michigan State’s in-state rival may have the best college football uniforms but it is Sparty who can lay claim to the game’s best logo,” Weber said in the article. “The second-place finisher in Reddit’s recent logo poll, this Spartan helmet silhouette ranks supreme here because it’s everything you want in a logo: Striking but understated, strong but subtle and just all-around awesome. And after years of endlessly toying with the shade of green, Michigan State finally hit the jackpot.”

Following MSU, University of Texas ranked No. 2, University of Virginia ranked No. 3, University of North Carolina ranked No. 4 and University of Miami in Florida ranked No. 5. University of Michigan ended the list at No. 25.

Some MSU students expected the praise.

Chemistry senior Robert Stinolis said he likes the logo just the way it is.

“I dig it,” Stinolis said. “It’s simple and classic. Don’t change it.”

Comparative cultures and politics sophomore Alayna Brasch said she likes the logo for its notability.

“I think it’s really cool,” Brasch said. “It’s eye-catching, creative. You look at it and everyone knows what it stands for.”

The MSU logo is not the only high-ranking representation of the university.

Sparty was ranked fifth in an Athlon Sports Expert Poll ranking of college mascots in July, according to the site.
