Update: East Lansing Fire Inspector Don Carter said the cause of the fire is still under investigation but said he hopes to have a conclusion within 72 hours.

Yesterday at about 3 p.m., The Landings at Chandler Crossings, north of East Lansing in Bath Township, was engulfed in a fire which six different area fire departments responded to, East Lansing Fire Inspector Don Carter said.

Carter was on the scene Tuesday morning investigating the cause of the fire which has yet to be determined as of Tuesday afternoon.

The entire building was deemed unlivable and is now vacant. Residents of building 10 in the apartment complex were evacuated. Shaul said no injuries have been reported and all residents in the building affected by the fire have been temporarily transferred to other apartments within Chandler Crossings.

A total of 18 units have been deemed unlivable, Carter said.

In October 2014, a fire occurred at The Landings at Chandler Crossings where six apartments were damaged by fire and six more damaged by smoke, The State News perviously reported.

The cause of that fire was determined to be the carelessness of residents smoking on a balcony, East Lansing Fire Marshal Gerald Rodabaugh told The State News in March 2015.
