November 25, 2015

The city of East Lansing will host its own version of Black Friday called Green Friday. The event will take place Dec. 4 and 5.

Holiday shoppers will be able to enjoy a variety of sales and specials at the shops, galleries, boutiques and restaurants in downtown East Lansing. Business hours will vary among participating merchants.

“This is a great opportunity to support local downtown businesses, while taking advantage of some great sales and specials,” East Lansing Downtown Management Board Coordinator Amy Schlusler said in an email.

According to the city's website, there are 23 local business participating.

East Lansing Threads, located at 225 E Grand River Ave., will be participating and offering 20 percent off any one item.

Cory Quinn, a partner at East Lansing Threads, said the event will bring residents downtown and create a buzz while spreading holiday cheer.

"It is a great way to support the community," Quinn said. "The money that goes into the community comes back out in the community."
