MSU student arrested on child pornography charges

August 14, 2015

An MSU student from West Bloomfield faces child pornography charges after he allegedly filmed prepubescent boys in a locker room and distributed the photos online, according to Click On Detroit and The Detroit News.

The alleged criminal, 21-year-old Matthew Kuppe, was a camp counselor at the Jewish Community Center and was arrested on three charges: the production, possession and receipt and distribution of child pornography.

The psychology senior had allegedly been taking pictures of prepubescent boys in a locker room and then posting the photos on the internet. The website is unnamed in the complaint.

Kuppe ran an email account, "jcclockerroom@gmail.com", from which he allegedly used to distribute pictures of the boys' genitalia.

An undercover officer corresponded with Kuppe, and Kuppe revealed that he had molested the boys in the locker room, describing them in explicit detail to the officer.

The Detroit News is reporting police want time to gather if there were other victims.

After a subpoena revealed the owner and the address of the internet user, officers conducted surveillance of the address. They were able to connect Kuppe to the day camp, as well as positively identify him by his shoes which appeared in some of the photos he posted online.

Officers then executed a warrant of Kuppe's address, after which he admitted to, among other things, using jcclockerroom@gmail.com, posting nude photographs of the underage boys and receiving child pornography from other users.

He is being held without bond before a hearing scheduled for Tuesday in a federal court.
