Ex-boyfriend assaults student in dorm room

June 16, 2015

A female MSU student was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend on June 8 in her South Wonders Hall dorm room, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor  said.

The 18-year-old student was in her dorm room when her 19-year-old ex-boyfriend from Southfield, Mich., came by and the two got into an argument.

According to the incident report, the victim opened the door, realized it was her ex-boyfriend and subsequently tried to shut the door.

When he came into the room, he became upset she was talking on the phone with someone else. He then took the phone and when the victim screamed and tried to get the phone back, he strangled her.

The victim received no injuries from the assault, Sgt. McGlothian-Taylor said.

When the victim eventually got the phone back, she called 911 but then hung up. Later on, the friend she was on the phone with during the assault called the victim's mother and told her what happened.

The victim's mother then urged her daughter go into the MSU Police Department to file a report. The assault is currently under investigation by MSU Police.
