Death of MSU senior in January caused by heroin overdose

May 14, 2015

The toxicology report of applied engineering sciences senior and Alpha Sigma Phi member Anthony Hawley has revealed the cause of his Jan. 29 death to be a heroin overdose, East Lansing police Lt. Steve Gonzalez said.

On the night of his death, Hawley was found unresponsive by his roommate at about 10 p.m. After police and paramedics arrived, Hawley was given CPR and rushed to Sparrow Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Hawley's obituary read that he will always be remembered for his "zealous attitude, comical nature and living life to the fullest." The night after his death, Hawley's friends held a candlelight vigil at the Rock on Farm Lane.

The Rock was painted with a message saying "A true (Alpha Sigma Phi), we love you, 7/7/93, Tony, 1/29/15."
