Senior quarterback Connor Cook and the White team will be eating steak tonight as Cook led the White squad to a 9-3 victory in the annual Green and White spring exhibition game.

The first score of the day came from a three-yard run by senior offensive lineman Jack Allen. Allen punched it in after fellow senior offensive lineman Donovan Clark put the White team in scoring position on a 15-yard run. A failed two-point conversion left the White team with a 6-0 lead.

The White team struck again after junior defensive end Evan Jones picked off junior quarterback Tyler O'Connor on the first play of the drive for the Green team. An interception on the Green team's side of the field gave the White team the ball at the 19. Cook and the White team weren't able to do much with the turnover and a field goal from junior kicker Kevin Cronin gave them a 9-0 lead.

The Green team struggled the whole first half to get anything going on offense. A 50-yard run from redshirt freshman Madre London gave the Green offense its first spark. The team couldn't move the ball much after that but a Cronin field goal made it 9-3.

After junior running back Nick Tompkins blocked a White team punt, junior wide receiver Monty Madaris appeared to scoop the punt for a touchdown to tie the game, but a penalty brought it back. The Green team wasn't able to do anything with the turnover after it was called back to the White 40 and they were forced to punt.

Down 9-3 with 7:20 remaining, the Green team had the ball but a 3-play -2-yard drive gave the White team the ball for the final time and they ran the clock out.

Cook finished the day 11-for-22 with 105 yards passing, his leading receiver was senior DeAnthony Arnett with five receptions for 51 yards. Allen had the only touchdown of the day on both sides. O'Connor finished the day 6-for-16 with 51 yards passing, his leading receiver was senior AJ Troup who had one catch for 32 yards.

Senior defensive end Shilique Calhoun did all he could for the Green team with 2.5 sacks but despite his performance his team will be eating franks and beans. The team begins the season Sept 4 against Western Michigan.
