Suspect in road rage incident that prompted alert in MSU police custody

Update, Tuesday 1:15 p.m.: The victim, a 23-year-old male student was cut off at a light on South Shaw Lane and Red Cedar Road by the 21-year-old male suspect, who honked his horn at the suspect. The suspect then turned around and pulled out a weapon.

"He did not point it at the individual, but he did display it," Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. 

At 8:04 p.m. Monday the first alert went out and at 9:25 the second alert was sent. The crime was classified under road rage after the victim gave a description of the car to police.  

The suspect is currently in MSU police custody, although he has not yet been arraigned and his name has not been released. 


A report of a motorist evidently brandishing a firearm on campus prompted an alert from MSU police Monday evening.

The alert describes the report as "a person displaying gun from vehicle at Shaw/Farm during a road rage incident." 

The suspect is described as a black male in a blue or black Chevrolet Impala, per the alert, and left the scene southbound on Farm Lane.

Police are urging students to contact them with any further information.

Update: MSU police have taken the motorist in question into custody and have recovered the firearm involved, according to the latest alert.
