In today's weather: snow, hail, rain and ice

March 3, 2015

In dressing for the commute to class, students will have to cover three bases — first snow, then rain and ice. The buildup of ice and snow will make it slippery out there, as MSU gradually transforms into a slushie throughout the afternoon, and freezes all over again this evening.

For students who drive to class, be sure to use extra caution and leave a little early, the roads are very slippery. According to Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, many accidents are taking place on roads and expressways.

The high this afternoon will be around 35 degrees Fahrenheit with south-southeast winds reaching 15 mph. Throughout the day MSU can expect up to an inch of snow and sleet.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for East Lansing until 8 p.m. tonight. There is a 100 percent chance that precipitation will occur.

Later tonight keep an eye out for rain or freezing rain before 10 p.m. If you’re going out later than that continue to use caution, there’s a chance of snow and freezing drizzle between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m.

Things are looking up for Wednesday. There’s only a 20 percent chance of snow showers, and it’s expected to be partly sunny. However the cold temperatures will continue to prevail.

The high for Wednesday is expected to be no more than 22 degrees Fahrenheit. Wednesday night temperatures may reach a low of 2 F.
