MSU field hockey will need new recruits to replace graduating offensive players

November 13, 2014

With MSU field hockey graduating seven senior players, next year’s roster has some holes to fill. Head coach Helen Knull is being charged with the task of replacing nearly 78 percent of her team’s offense.

While MSU will return multiple players who have played key roles and contributed meaningful minutes over the last two years, Knull will have at least four new players to work with starting next season.

Joining the Spartans next year will be New Jersey natives Sam Siegel and Alyssa Judd, and Pennsylvania natives Amanda Robinson and Maddie O’Neill.

Siegel attended Bernards High School and played field hockey all four years. Her best statistical year came during her junior season when she amassed 32 goals and nine assists and followed it up with a 26-goal campaign her senior year that was accompanied by 13 assists.

Judd, out of Somerville High School, is a goalkeeper who put up impressive numbers throughout her four years playing for the Pioneers. She stopped an outstanding 254 shots during her junior season, averaging over 14 saves per game.

Siegel and Judd’s schools met twice during their high school careers. Siegel got the best of Judd both times, notching a goal and an assist their junior year and following it up with a hat trick against Judd their senior year.

Robinson played in the backfield for Donegal High School. Throughout her three years on the team, Robinson was able to put up 37 points while playing on the defensive side of the ball. Her senior year was the most productive as Robinson collected 23 points in just eleven games.

O’Neill attended Lower Dauphin High School and recently was named a first team all-star of the Mid-Penn Keystone. After registering 34 points combined in her sophomore and junior seasons, O’Neill excelled in her senior season by accumulating 61 points in just 19 games.
