UAB to host free concert Thursday

September 23, 2014

While students participate in the traditional homecoming week activities, such as hayrides and ice cream at the rock on Farm Lane, they can expect to find a new event that has been scheduled by the University Activities Board for later this week.

A free concert will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at Morrill Plaza, featuring a band of three MSU alumni called The Hacky Turtles.

According to UAB Spirit and Traditions Director Claire Nuttall, a few members from The Hacky Turtles have played at UAB events with their previous band in the past, and they are excited to come back for homecoming week.

The concert will have hay bale seating provided by the university farm, and students are encouraged to bring blankets. Free cider and donuts will also be provided.

"This is the one homecoming event that’s not necessarily traditional," Nuttall said.  "We haven’t done this before so we are really excited about it."
