Teen awaits sentencing after plea in sexual assault of MSU student

The sexual assailant of an MSU student pleaded no contest to charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct Thursday, the Lansing State Journal reported.

Darcel Johnson Jr. of Commerce Township was 17 years old in February when a 20-year-old MSU student woke up to him sexually assaulting her in her home in East Lansing.  

The police were called immediately, and Johnson was arrested about a block from the home, Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III said.  

Johnson will serve between 21 to 35 months in prison before being considered for parole, pleaded no contest to raping the student as she slept. Dunnings said Johnson could serve up to 15 years in prison.

Johnson will be sentenced on Jan. 14, 2015 and currently is under house arrest.
