Spartan Remix will celebrate diversity

September 2, 2014

The Office of Cultural and Academic Transitions will host their annual “Spartan Remix” event at MSU’s Auditorium Field by The Rock this Thursday.

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., students in various groups under the Council of Racial and Ethnic Students (CORES) and Council of Progressive Students (COPS) will come together to celebrate and educate diversity with the larger MSU community.

The theme of this year’s event is “Infinite Harmonies” and during there will be food, body painting, performances, games and other activities.

Coordinator in the Office of Cultural and Academic Transitions Meaghan Kozar said Spartan Remix is unlike other campus events which are usually tailored towards one community.

“This is one of the few events on campus that brings diverse communities together,” Kozar said.

In addition to the activities, a sub-event called “#OurLivesMatter” at 8 p.m. will assist in creating awareness and recognizing lives lost due to racism, transphobia and religious intolerance.

Kozar said she hopes Spartan Remix will assist students in becoming aware of communities other than their own.
