Peace corps recruitment efforts remain strong at MSU

September 19, 2014

MSU students take Peace Corps into consideration when looking to build up their volunteering experience.

Currently ranked 14th out of universities with the most current volunteers with 47 graduates in the corps, MSU has also had more than 2,000 alumni join the program in the past.

Peace Corps is a governmental organization which allows recent graduates to volunteer for a certain period of time overseas in a variety of countries throughout the world.

In a statement, MSU Peace Corps recruiter Ana kelly said MSU’s traits make graduates a good fit to volunteer overseas.

“Peace Corps is a natural next step for Michigan State alums because the university has a strong study abroad presence, established international research programs and a large body of international students that help to create a unique global culture on campus,” Kelly said.

Kelley said in the statement Peace Corps volunteers gain "cross-cultural, language, and leadership skills that position them well for employment or advanced education opportunities."

After returning to the United States, students have access to a special Peace Corps graduate program that offers internships and financial assistance.

There will be informational sessions on how to get involved and learn more about the Peace Corps at MSU in the upcoming weeks.

On Thursday Oct. 9 on the 4th floor of Spartan Stadium, the Agriculture, Food & Environment Career Fair will have an informational session from 2 to 6 p.m.

The Nursing Career Fair will also have an informational session on Thursday Oct. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m on the 4th floor in the Spartan Stadium.

Another informational session will be held at the MSU Union for the Global Opportunities Fair on Oct. 22 from 12 to 4 p.m.
