Field hockey defeats Kent State in overtime, 4-3

September 14, 2014

For the second consecutive week, MSU field hockey found themselves facing an overtime game.

This time around, the Spartans (3-2 overall) were able to complete their comeback and defeat Kent State 4-3 in overtime.

Senior midfielder Becky Stiles came up with the late game heroics for the Spartans in this contest, pushing their overall record to above .500.

After falling behind 2-0 early in the game, sophomore forward Megan Fenton scored a key goal before halftime to cut the deficit to one goal. MSU was out-shot 16-5 in the first half, with sophomore goalkeeper Sierra Patton making six saves to keep the Spartans in it.

The Golden Flashes were able to add another goal late in the 56th minute to extend their lead back to two goals. MSU wasted no time after that, as Kendal Anderson notched her first career goal less than two minutes later.

Keeping the rally going, senior forward Abby Barker scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season to tie the game just minutes after Anderson's goal.

This is now the second time MSU has beat Kent State this season, as MSU played host to them in an exhibition game back in late August. The Spartans will be back at it tomorrow in Kent, Ohio as they look to defeat the Richmond Spiders.
