A surge of students signed into the MSU Spartans website on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 20 to reserve their spot in the Izzone for men’s basketball upcoming season. With ticket sales soaring already, MSU Association of Future Alumni is working to plan this year’s Izzone Campout.

“Our basketball program has a long history of success and this year should be no different,” Paul Schager, MSU associate athletic director, said. “We have a strong tradition at MSU and we expect this year to be another great season for Spartan basketball.”

Tickets are sold for $159 plus an $11 service charge, which includes 12 games, excluding games during academic breaks. The Izzone holds about 3,000 students. Since the number fluctuates depending on student demand and flexibility in the stadium, Dan DiMaggio, alumni association assistant director, said, “We kind of gage out and see how sales are going and then have the ability to make some adjustments.”

The campout will be held on Oct. 17 at Munn Field, welcoming all students who previously purchased basketball season tickets.

Plans for the campout activities are still underway, but according to DiMaggio, attendees will be able to sit in on basketball practice at Breslin Center when the gates first open.

At 7 p.m., Munn Ice Arena will be open for campers to watch the first hockey regular season home game. The rest of the night will consist of men’s basketball head coach Tom Izzo and players engaging the crowd on the main stage, sticking around throughout the night and through to the morning.

For returning Izzone members, attending the campout will give those students first priority of lower bowl seating.

“Students are eligible for lower bowl seating based on their attendance at games the year prior. Students that were in the section last year that did not graduate are all ranked based on their attendance and time of arrival,” DiMaggio said.

The top 1,400 students that attended the campout will be granted priority lower bowl seating. For freshmen, transfer students and those we who did not purchase Izzone tickets previously, going to the campout will benefit them when it’s time to buy tickets next year.

“They all have the ability to experience the lower bowl based on the wild card we draw on a game-to-game basis,” DiMaggio said. “That is determined by their time of arrival when they get in line at each game. Up to the first 200 people in line at the upper bowl gate have the opportunity to be seated in lower bowl.”

The point system used to establish priority for tickets gives campout attendees two extra points. MSU Student Affairs Administration encourages all students that have purchased basketball season tickets to attend the campout.
