Expectations vs. reality: the first day of classes

August 29, 2014

We asked MSU students:

WHAT DID YOU EXPECT YOUR FIRST DAY OF CLASSES?

“I thought I would just ask questions and the professor would answer. I thought there would be more group communication. It was confusing. I met with my group members to figure out the questions in the class.”

Vamnon Chen, electrical engineering freshman

“I’ve already been to college classes from dual enrollment. Kind of what I expected. The teacher was cooler than I thought, not as strict. I liked it.”

Sarah Esseily, computer engineering freshman

“My expectations were to get lost and get homework on the first day. To learn some new vocabulary. I got a little bit lost and did learn new vocabulary. I didn’t get any homework.”

Lauren Dandridge, criminal justice freshman

“I thought more kids would be towards the back but a lot were towards the front. A lot of kids came half hour early. My second class only lasted 10 minutes because the professor didn’t show up. All of my professors had accents from where they were from.”

Alexander Iliev, civil engineering freshman

“I expected it to be fun and to be able to learn it by heart. They were good.”

Joe Sun, accounting freshman

“It was as I expected. It was cool, not too overwhelming.”

Arhin Acheampong, criminal justice freshman
