The search committee for the new College of Communication Arts and Sciences dean recently selected three possible candidates for the position.

The three selected candidates, hailing from their respective schools, each have extensive experience as professors, department heads and deans themselves.

One of the candidates, professor and associate dean for academics Prabu David, from Washington State University, has had significant work experience since 1982. He is a professor in the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at WSU.

David also is working on several projects including one that involves medication monitoring via iPads with patients. His research interests include subjects ranging from health communication to entertainment theory.

From Cornell University, professor in communication science and co-chair of the Department of Information Science, Jeffrey Hancock is one of the three candidates as well. Last year, he received the Cornell University Outstanding Faculty Rising Star Award.

The third candidate, Jerold Hale, dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the College of Charleston, is an MSU alumnus and has taught courses ranging from persuasion to nonverbal communication.

The candidates will be invited to MSU for interviews, the dates and times of which will be finalized in the coming weeks.
