Update, 3:22 p.m.

Although further details about President Obama’s plans in East Lansing next week have not been released, East Lansing Mayor Nathan Triplett said Obama will be addressing economic issues.

Triplett said he was excited to find out about the scheduled visit.

“Obviously we’re honored and ecstatic to be hosting the president in East Lansing,” Triplett said. “I think it’s only fitting that he chose Michigan for an address focusing on the economy given how much the state benefitted from the economic policies.”

President Barack Obama likely will be in East Lansing to discuss the economy next Friday, according to a report from The Detroit News.

A White House official reportedly told The Detroit News Obama will hold an event on the economy in East Lansing Friday. More information from the White House is expected to be released next week.

This will be Obama’s first visit to Michigan since he visited the Detroit Diesel plant in Redford Township. He was last in East Lansing during his 2008 presidential campaign.
