College of Arts and Letters site hacked, info posted on database

Roughly 1,500 login credentials were hacked from an MSU server Tuesday, Ehackingnews.com reported.

The hacker, whose twitter name is @DARWINARE, stole email addresses and encrypted passwords
used to access a website for the College of Arts and Letters, university spokesman Kent Cassella said.

The information was posted on the online database AnonPaste.

Cassella also said the College of Arts and Letters website that was hacked has been taken down to reinforce security.

“IT Services also is reaching out to those whose account information was copied,” Cassella said.
In a tweet posted yesterday, the hacker @DARWINARE stated “If I do not put a reason for my attacks, it’s most likely #HFF (Hack For Fun)”

MSU Police are investigating the hack, Cassella said.

According to MLive.com, university spokesman Jason Cody said the website’s users were not limited to MSU, even though the website was hosted through the university itself.

According to MLive’s report, Cody said he did not know how many accounts were obtained by the hacker.
