For comparative cultures and politics freshman Tommy Kladis, there’s more to school than hitting the books and studying day in and day out. Kladis has a passion for writing his own lyrics to express his thoughts through rapping.

“What I’ve learned from James Madison (College) is you should do what you can to change the world, and I feel I could be the most effective influencing the world through music,” Kladis said.

Kladis said as he pursues his dream to achieve fame as rapper High Society, English freshman John Shaughnessy has been by his side, providing equipment to make mixtapes in his dorm.

Balancing school with music has its ups and downs. Kladis said often finds himself writing lyrics during class lectures.

“Like I say, I don’t want to be stuck in a cubicle, I want to be in a studio,” Kladis said.
