City Council to discuss reshaping zoning ordinance for East Village

April 23, 2012

The East Lansing City Council is scheduled to continue its discussion on an ordinance that could reshape an area redevelopment project at its Tuesday night work session.

The work session is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 410 Abbot Road.

The council is expected to discuss changes in zoning for an area near the east end of MSU campus. The area is part of the East Village project, a redevelopment effort that has been stalled since 2009 because of economic issues.

Changes to the zoning code would lower the minimum required building height to two stories, among other changes.

The council also is expected to discuss a proposed new software system run by Granicus, a nationwide information technology company that works with government municipalities to promote transparency.

The new system would allow the council to stream its meetings live across the web and would add in features allowing residents and council members to interact with and view the agenda and related documents on the same screen.

Community members can offer public comment shortly after the meeting begins.
