The Lansing Lugnuts took three of four games against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers this past weekend.
After dropping the first game 4-3 Thursday, the Lugnuts used strong pitching performances to shut down the Timber Rattlers, a Seattle Mariners Single-A affiliate.
Four Lansing pitchers combined for a one-hitter in Friday's game, as catcher Matthew Liuzza drove in five runs to pace Lansing to an 11-0 victory.
The Lugnuts started quickly in Saturday's game, building a 7-1 lead after Wisconsin starter Tony Butler walked seven batters over the first two innings. Lansing went on to win, 7-4.
Sunday afternoon, Matthew Lane's two-out, two-run single in the top of the sixth inning proved to be the deciding hit as the Lugnuts closed out a solid series with a 2-1 win.
Lansing now sits at 21-18 on the season, 7 1/2 games behind first-place Dayton. They return to Lansing for series against Great Lakes on Friday.
