Five favorites

Every week, The State News presents five things going on in the world of pop culture that might make your life a little bit better.

1. "A Million Little Pieces" by James Frey. Someone is bound to be reading this book in any given coffee shop or library. Frey has given readers an honest look at human weakness and ability. It's also Oprah's current book club selection. See a review of the novel in Wednesday's edition of The State News.

2. The song "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt. Chances are you've heard this song playing on the Impact or seen the video on mtvU. The song will tend to grow on you after the first few dozen times. It's impossible to avoid hearing it, so you might as well embrace it. Blunt is the newest addition to the growing singer/songwriter genre.

3. "Brokeback Mountain," Ang Lee's latest movie, has everyone talking about gay cowboys. It just opened in the area, so go see it while it's still hot. It's playing at NCG Lansing Cinemas, 2205 Lake Lansing Road, in Lansing and at Celebration Cinemas, 200 E. Edgewood Blvd., in Lansing. See a review of the movie in Thursday's edition of The State News.

4. Check out "There and Back," MTV's latest reality show featuring former O-Town member Ashley Parker Angel. Watch Angel as he deals with being a washed-up teen heartthrob, battles increasing debt and becomes a father. Chances are you'll enjoy making fun of Angel rather than sympathizing. See a Q and A with Angel in Friday's edition of The State News.

5. Big Ten Burrito, 403 E. Grand River Ave., now delivers from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. every night. Big Ten is the only burrito place in the area that delivers. Not only can you get your burrito fix late at night, now you don't have to leave the couch or battle drunks in line.
